Chandpole Gate

Chandpole Gate is a massive stone structure with two tall towers and detailed architectural features from the Rajput period. It opens to a busy market area and serves as a key passage leading into the old walled city.

The gate was built in 1727 as the western entrance to the fortified city during Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II's reign. It formed one of the five main entrances that structured Jaipur's original urban design according to ancient planning principles.

In the market alongside the gate, local craftspeople sell traditional textiles, marble work, and handmade goods from Rajasthan, which visitors encounter while walking through the narrow lanes nearby.

The location is near a metro station, making it easy to reach, and there are parking areas nearby. The best time to visit is early morning when market activity is light and the architecture can be viewed more clearly.

The name comes from the Hindi word 'Chand,' meaning moon, marking this entrance as having celestial significance in the city's ancient design. This connection to heavenly bodies was part of a larger system that named all five gates and emphasized their cosmic alignment.
