Chandpole Gate, Ancient royal gate in western Jaipur, India.
The Chandpole Gate stands as a massive stone structure with intricate carvings, featuring two tall towers and detailed architectural elements from the Rajput period.
Built in 1727 during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the gate served as a vital western entrance point to the fortified city of Jaipur.
Local artisans sell traditional Rajasthani crafts, textiles, and marble items in the adjacent Chandpole Bazar, which extends for one kilometer inside the old city.
The gate connects to major transport networks, including the metro station, and provides direct access to several historical monuments within the walled city.
The name Chandpole derives from Hindi word 'Chand,' referring to the Moon God, marking this entrance as a celestial point in Jaipur's ancient urban planning.
