Jaipur Zoo, Zoo in Ram Niwas Garden, Jaipur, India
Jaipur Zoo is a zoological park in Ram Niwas Garden, Jaipur, India, presenting mammals, birds, and reptiles in separate sections. Pathways connect the enclosures and allow a circuit through the entire site.
Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II founded the facility in 1877 beside the Albert Hall Museum within Ram Niwas Garden. In 1999 a gharial breeding center was established, now ranking among the largest such operations in India.
The site takes its name from Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, who created it as part of a larger garden project. Local school groups regularly visit the enclosures to observe native and exotic species during educational trips.
Opening hours run from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM every day, and guided tours in several languages start at the main entrance. Walks through the grounds typically take one to two hours, depending on your own pace.
The gharial breeding center is one of the few facilities in India dedicated solely to this rare crocodile species. Visitors can watch the long-snouted reptiles in dedicated pools that mimic natural riverbanks.
