Govind Dev Ji Temple, Hindu temple in City Palace, Jaipur, India.
Govind Dev Ji is a Hindu temple within the City Palace of Jaipur, India, dedicated to Krishna as its central figure and built with traditional Rajasthani architectural features. The interior walls display detailed frescoes showing scenes from Krishna's life, painted by local craftsmen using natural pigments.
Raja Sawai Jai Singh II brought the deity from Vrindavan to Jaipur in the 18th century and founded the temple at the heart of the newly built City Palace. The relocation occurred to protect the sacred image during political turmoil in northern India.
The temple follows a fixed daily rhythm with seven prayer ceremonies stretching from early morning to late evening, mirroring the ritual life of the deity. Devotees gather for each ceremony in the courtyard, where they sing together and present offerings.
Visitors can enter the temple through the main gate of the City Palace, but must remove shoes before entering the inner sanctum. Prayer times begin at dawn and end late in the evening, with the evening ceremony often drawing the largest crowd.
The image is named Bajrakrit and was created by Krishna's great-grandson Bajranabh based on descriptions from Krishna's grandmother, who lived some 5000 years ago. Devotees consider this depiction one of the oldest and most accurate representations of Krishna.
