Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Government technology research center in Pune, India
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing is a government technology research institution located on Pune University Campus in Maharashtra. This center focuses on high-performance computing and software systems, operating additional branches in several Indian cities including Mohali in Punjab.
This institution was founded in 1988 following India's inability to purchase a Cray supercomputer from the United States. That decision prompted the country to develop its own computing technology, leading to the creation of the PARAM 8000, the first Indian-built supercomputer.
The center promotes digital inclusion through multilingual computing initiatives that support India's 22 scheduled languages in information technology applications.
Visitors interested in training can enroll in programs covering advanced computing, cybersecurity, and software development. The Advanced Computing Training School offers specialized courses for students and professionals.
The PARAM 8000, developed here, was the first supercomputer built in India and paved the way for subsequent generations of high-performance machines in the country. This achievement allowed India to become largely self-reliant in computing technology.
