Jalangi community development block, Administrative division in Murshidabad district, India
Jalangi community development block is an administrative division in Murshidabad district that spreads across the Raninagar plain in the northeastern part of the Bagri region. The block contains 39 villages organized as rural settlements with a combined population of over 250,000 residents.
The block developed around multiple tributaries of the Ganges River, including the Bhairab, Jalangi, Chhoto Bhairab, Sialmari, and Gobra Nala waterways. These rivers have shaped settlement patterns and agricultural practices in the region over many generations.
The population of 252,477 residents comprises 73.27 percent Muslim and 26.57 percent Hindu communities, with Bengali serving as the primary language of communication.
Nearly all villages in the block have access to electrical power and drinking water supplies, with ferry services connecting settlements across waterways. Travel through the area is easier during dry seasons when water levels are lower.
The area is a significant rice-growing region where farmers cultivate both monsoon and dry-season rice varieties alongside wheat farming. Rice cultivation remains deeply embedded in the daily routines and economy of the villages.
