Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar, Sacred cliff formation in Kotagiri, India
The Rangaswamy Peak rises to 1,794 meters above sea level, featuring a prominent 400-foot natural stone pillar on its northwest side.
A DC-3 Air India aircraft carrying statistician Abraham Wald met with a fatal accident at this location on December 13, 1950.
The peak functions as a religious center for the Irula tribe, who regard it as the residence of their deity and conduct annual harvest festivals.
Visitors need to carry sufficient water and food supplies when exploring the peak, as no food establishments operate in the surrounding area.
Local beliefs point to a set of footprints marked on the rocks, connected to a tale of Lord Rangaswamy departing from Karamadai to dwell on the peak.
