Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar

Rangaswamy Peak rises to about 1,800 meters and features a prominent natural stone pillar on its northwest side. This rock formation creates the landmark's distinctive appearance and serves as a recognizable feature from various viewing points.

The site is linked to a DC-3 Air India plane crash on December 13, 1950, which caused multiple fatalities. This tragic incident became a significant moment in the peak's recorded history.

The peak holds religious significance for the Irula people, who consider it home to their deity and gather here for yearly harvest celebrations.

The area has no restaurants or shops nearby, so visitors should bring plenty of water and food supplies. It is wise to arrive prepared with enough provisions to be self-sufficient during the visit.

Local traditions speak of footprints carved into the rocks, connected to a legend about deity Rangaswamy. These markings are said to trace his journey from Karamadai to settle on this mountain.
