Nanjundeswarar temple, Karamadai, Hindu temple in Karamadai, India
The Nanjundeswarar Temple features a five-tiered gateway tower and contains sculptures of various deities across its granite walls and inner sanctums.
Built during the 16th century CE, copper plate inscriptions from 1479 document the grant of Poosarpalaym village to Brahmins by General Iswara Deva Raja.
The temple conducts four daily rituals and celebrates major festivals including Shivaratri in May-June and Annabishekam in October-November, drawing numerous devotees.
Located 30 kilometers from Coimbatore on Mettupalayam Road, the temple operates from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM daily.
The temple houses a flat red granite Shivalinga, different from traditional curved shapes, with eight carved elephants supporting the main shrine tower.
