Victoria Town Hall, Coimbatore, Neoclassical municipal building in Coimbatore, India
Victoria Town Hall is a neoclassical building in Coimbatore's center with a white facade featuring three Gothic arches and a balcony. The interior contains a large assembly hall that continues to serve as a meeting space for the city's administration today.
The building was constructed in 1892 to commemorate Queen Victoria while the city was under British rule. It embodies the colonial architecture of that era and stands as one of the city's oldest surviving administrative structures.
The building carries Queen Victoria's name and reflects the importance the city once placed on its colonial connection. Today it remains a place where local gatherings occur and where the city conducts its administrative work.
The building sits in the city center and is easily reached, with large entrances providing access to the assembly hall. Visitors should keep in mind this is an active administrative building, so access to certain areas may be restricted.
The building's roof is covered with red Mangalore tiles and supported by solid timber trusses. These traditional materials and the stone columns set in lime mortar reveal the craftsmanship of 19th-century construction methods.
