Amruteshwar Temple

Amruteshwar Temple is a Hindu shrine built from black stone in a remote mountain village. The walls, pillars, and vertical spires feature intricate carved patterns and small ornamental turrets that characterize the structure.

The shrine was built in the 9th century when rulers of the Shilahara dynasty constructed a series of Shiva temples across the region. It stands as one of the most important religious stone structures from that era.

The temple houses a sacred Shiva lingam positioned over a rock cavity, with three stones arranged in the shape of a kalasha above it.

The shrine is only accessible by boat across a lake or on foot up mountain slopes, which is why few visitors reach this spot. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water, as there are no supply stations along the way.

Inside sits a sacred lingam stone positioned in a natural rock cavity and crowned by three larger stones. Nearby stands an ancient water tank with side entrances and smaller shrines holding statues of different deities.
