Vigneshwara Temple, Ozar, Hindu temple in Ozar, Maharashtra, India
The Vighnaharta Temple in Ozar is a Hindu shrine in Maharashtra that belongs to the eight revered Ganesha sites in the region. The complex shows carved stonework on pillars and walls, while the inner sanctuary houses the deity in a seated posture with the trunk facing east.
The shrine was built in the late 18th century by the Maratha commander Chimaji Appa following his victory over the Portuguese at Vasai. He brought a golden spire as an offering after his campaign in 1739.
The shrine takes its name from Vighna (obstacle) and Hara (remover), reflecting the temple's role in the lives of worshipers. Pilgrims come here to seek blessings and protection before important life events or journeys.
The shrine sits by the river near Narayangaon and is reachable by bus connections from Pune. Visitors should remove their shoes before entering the inner rooms and expect waiting times during major festivals.
The statue in the sanctuary shows the trunk in a rare left-facing position, which carries special meaning in Hindu iconography. Legends tell that the demon Vighnasura was defeated here and asked for redemption.
