Narayangad

Narayangad is a mountain fort in Pune district situated at roughly 876 meters above sea level, featuring two distinct peaks connected by ancient fortification walls. The site contains several old water cisterns that once supplied the garrison with water.

This medieval fort served as a strategic military outpost during the Maratha Empire, helping to defend the region against invasions from rival powers. The fortifications reflect the military design of that period and the role such outposts played in regional defense.

A temple dedicated to Hastabai Devi stands on the fort grounds today, serving as a gathering place for the community during the festivals of Nagpanchami and Dussehra when local people come to pray.

Reaching the fort requires a trek of about 4 kilometers from Malwadi village, where newly constructed stone steps make the climb easier to manage. It is best to start early in the morning and bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water for the journey.

From the fort's highest point, visitors can view Ozar Lake through a natural veil of mist that creates a distinctive visual effect. This misty appearance is especially pronounced during early morning hours, giving the view a serene quality.
