Schneespitze

Monte della Neve is a mountain summit in the Durreck group of the Venediger Range, standing at approximately 3,174 meters (10,400 feet). The slopes are characterized by dark metamorphic rock formations that dominate the mountain's appearance.

The mountain serves as a geographical border marker between Italy and Austria, a position established after territorial changes in the 20th century. This borderline location has long made it a significant reference point in regional geography.

The summit carries both German and Italian names, Schneespitze and Monte della Neve, reflecting the bilingual heritage of South Tyrol. This dual naming appears on maps and trail markers, marking the cultural boundary that runs through the region.

The summit is reached via trail number 6 from Fleres di Dentro to Rifugio Cremona, requiring proper mountaineering equipment and technical climbing skills. Sturdy boots and prior climbing experience are essential for navigating the rocky sections safely.

The northeast ridge presents technical climbing challenges with brittle rock that demands careful foot placement and route finding. Most climbers encounter this demanding section while gaining approximately 1,580 meters (5,180 feet) in elevation.
