Val Roseg, Mountain valley in Pontresina, Switzerland.

Val Roseg is a peaceful mountain valley where fresh air surrounds you and green meadows stretch between tall peaks, with a calm lake at the far end reflecting the sky above.

For centuries, local herders have brought their sheep and cattle to graze in these high meadows during summer, and small mountain huts still stand as reminders of this way of life.

Traditional wooden chalets dot the landscape, showing how people have lived in harmony with the mountains for generations, preserving old customs and a simple, quiet way of living.

The valley offers gentle trails for easy walks and more challenging routes for serious hikers, with wildflowers covering the meadows in summer and thick snow creating a winter paradise for skiing.

The Tschierva glacier slowly retreats down the surrounding slopes, leaving behind jagged ice and debris that change the landscape year after year, giving scientists clues about how the Alps are shifting.

Alpine sites in Switzerland: mountains, lakes, and valleys

The Swiss Alps include peaks, valleys, lakes, and passes that have impressed travelers for a long time. This collection brings together places where nature shows its best side: the Matterhorn with its recognizable shape, the green waters of the Verzasca Valley, the Gornergrat view facing 29 peaks, and the St. Moritz lake that becomes a natural ice rink in winter. Alongside these natural sights, you will also see signs of local craftsmanship, like dams hanging on the rocky walls, funiculars and cogwheel trains that have climbed higher for more than a century, or cultural sites such as the Pierre Gianadda Foundation in Martigny. Each place tells in its own way how the Swiss tamed their mountains while respecting them. A journey between high altitude and a gentle way of life.
