Tuogu Mosque, Provincial heritage mosque in Taoyuan, China
Tuogu Mosque is a large religious building complex with a main hall supported by 36 columns and covering about 4,000 square meters (43,000 square feet). A five-story tower with Chinese inscriptions is a key feature of the site.
The site was founded in 1730 by two military officials from the Qing period to serve a religious community. Since then it has remained an important center for the local people.
The mosque brings together Chinese building traditions with Islamic needs, showing how different customs live side by side here. You see this blend in the spaces and in how everything is arranged.
The site can be explored on foot since all main areas are accessible and the paths are clearly laid out. It makes sense to allow time for looking at the details on the buildings and inscriptions.
During the 2014 earthquake in the region, the building suffered no damage and kept its full structure intact, showing how solid its construction is. This strength often surprises visitors who learn about it.
