Dafo Temple, Huize

Dafo Temple in Huize County is a Buddhist complex spread across five levels with multiple halls including the Heavenly King Hall and Big Buddha Hall displaying traditional Chinese architecture. The site features carefully arranged buildings with classical proportions and decorative details throughout its layout.

The temple was founded around 1100 during the Western Xia period after the Tangut people gained control of the region. These early origins continue to shape the character of the site today.

The temple remains an active place of worship where visitors can observe local Buddhists participating in prayer and rituals throughout the day. You can sense how the different halls serve distinct religious purposes and how faith shapes the daily use of the space.

The temple opened to visitors after major restoration work was completed in 2006 and operates as an active religious center today. Visiting in the morning is recommended when the light is best and the site is less crowded.

The temple houses an impressive reclining Buddha statue made of clay on a wooden framework that spans a considerable length. This sculpture is one of the site's lesser-known features that many visitors miss while exploring the other halls.
