Sassoon House, Art Deco skyscraper in Huangpu District, China

Sassoon House is a 77-metre Art Deco tower at No. 20 on the Bund, with a granite facade of vertical pilasters and a 19-metre dark green pyramidal copper roof. Its ground floor has tall arched openings; the corner bears the signs "花旗银行" and "citibank". The building rises nine storeys, with thirteen on the Huangpu River side.

The building was constructed in 1929 as the Cathay Hotel with offices and apartments for its developer Victor Sassoon. Its design reflected Shanghai's growth as an emerging global trading center.

The Cathay Hotel was among Shanghai's most prestigious addresses, ranked alongside Raffles in Singapore and the Peninsula in Hong Kong; many visiting ambassadors stayed here. Guest rooms were decorated in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Indian, Japanese and Chinese styles. A jazz band and the rooftop terrace restaurant remain draws today.

The main entrance of the Peace Hotel North Building is on Nanjing Road at its junction with the Bund; the Bund side faces the Huangpu River. The rooftop terrace restaurant looks across the river to Pudong. The jazz bar is a known stop for the hotel's band.

The dark green pyramidal roof, 19 metres high and clad in corrugated copper, hides a large dining hall inside it. From the rooftop terrace guests can look across the Huangpu River to Pudong. The building's plan forms the shape of the letter A.
