Brookside Apartments

Brookside Apartments is a multi-story residential complex on Huashan Road combining Art Deco and Spanish architectural styles throughout its structure. Built in the 1930s, the structure was converted from a garden residence into apartments by the family of Qing Dynasty prime minister Li Hongzhang. This transformation reflected changing patterns in urban living and property development during the era.

The Chinese name Zhenliu Apartments draws from classical literature about dwelling near water, symbolizing a retreat from urban pressure. Visitors can see how the decorative brooks and gardens were designed to bring this literary concept to life within the city.
