Gutian Conference Memorial Hall, Museum building in Shanghang County, China
The Gutian Conference Memorial Hall is a museum building in Shanghang County with ten exhibition rooms spread across approximately 3,200 square meters. The rooms display documents and artifacts from the 1929 conference, offering a full picture of that period.
The site originally housed the Liao Family Ancestral Hall built in 1848 before being converted to Shuguang Primary School in 1929. This transformation later allowed the historic conference held in the back structures to be documented and preserved.
The memorial follows traditional Chinese siheyuan architecture, with four structures arranged around a central courtyard. The layout and room arrangement reflect classical design principles found in such historical residential compounds.
The museum contains over 23,000 historical items including political pamphlets, publications, notebooks, and stamps from the revolutionary era. The collection provides detailed insight into daily life and communication of that time.
The back house compound served as the meeting venue where the principle of Party control over military forces was established. This gathering had far-reaching effects on how the revolutionary movement would be organized.
