Jochberg, Mountain summit in Kochel, Germany.
Jochberg is a 1565 meter peak situated between Lake Kochel and Lake Walchensee. The summit is surrounded by rolling grass slopes on its southern side and dramatic cliffs dropping away to the north.
This ridge has served as a crossing point for travelers between the two lakes for hundreds of years. The main trail to the summit underwent significant restoration in 2022 due to severe erosion damage that had accumulated over time.
The mountain serves as a meeting point for hikers from Munich and surrounding areas who gather to experience the Bavarian Alpine landscape throughout the year.
The trailhead at Kesselberghöhe is easily reached by taking regional train RB 66 from Munich to Kochel, then bus 9608 to the pass. The climb to the summit typically takes two to three hours and the path remains accessible throughout most seasons.
On clear days, the Munich Olympiaturm can be seen from the summit over 60 kilometers away to the north. This surprising long-distance view creates a visual connection between the peak and the distant city.
