Klettergebiet Kochel

Klettergebiet Kochel is a climbing destination near Kochelsee with hundreds of routes and boulders spread across multiple limestone walls. The rock formations offer a variety of difficulty levels from easier to very challenging climbs.

The area was developed in the late 1980s by local climbers including Toni Lamprecht, Thomas Bucher, and Stefan Glowacz. Their pioneering work established it as one of Germany's most important climbing destinations.

The climbing walls here carry names like Afrika and Atlantis, shaped by generations of local climbers over decades. These names reflect the history and dedication that successive generations of athletes have invested in these rock formations.

The area is best accessible from spring through autumn when weather is stable and the rock is dry. Visitors should bring basic climbing equipment and come physically prepared, as the routes vary in their demands.

The Atlantis Wall features massive overhanging sections where climbers navigate nearly horizontal rock sections. These formations create a distinctly different experience from the rest of the climbing landscape in the region.
