Herzogstand

Herzogstand is a mountain in the Bavarian Alpine foothills that rises to 1,731 meters above sea level. Its summit provides panoramic views across Lake Walchen and the surrounding mountain peaks.

A royal hunting lodge appeared at the site in 1857, marking the beginning of royal interest in the location. The mountain later served new purposes as infrastructure developed on its slopes.

The summit draws people from the surrounding region who come to walk the trails and gather at mountain lodges. It serves as a focal point for outdoor enthusiasts seeking connection with the landscape and each other.

A cable car reaches up to 1,575 meters, making the ascent accessible, while numerous hiking trails of different difficulty levels lead to the summit. The mountain is open year-round, though winter conditions may require extra preparation.

Radio transmission antennas operated on the summit between 1920 and 1934, marking an early experiment in wireless broadcasting. This technical use transformed the peak into a communication hub during a pioneering era.
