Herzogstand

The Herzogstand rises to an elevation of 1,731 meters in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps, offering views across Lake Walchen and surrounding peaks.

Maximilian II of Bavaria established a hunting lodge at the current Herzogstand-house location in 1857, followed by King Ludwig II's royal lodge construction in 1865.

The mountain holds significance in Bavarian outdoor recreation, with numerous hiking trails connecting to neighboring peaks and traditional mountain hospitality facilities.

Visitors can access the summit via the Herzogstandbahn cable car, which operates to an elevation of 1,575 meters, or through multiple hiking trails of varying difficulty.

Between 1920 and 1934, the summit served as a location for VLF transmission antennas, initiating its long-term use for radio broadcasting purposes.
