Wilhelmstadt, District in Spandau, Germany.
Wilhelmstadt is a locality in the Spandau district and stretches across roughly 10 square kilometers along the Havel River. The area mixes residential neighborhoods, green spaces, and several lakes including Grimnitzsee and Stößensee.
The area received its name in 1897 to celebrate Kaiser Wilhelm I's hundredth birthday and grew out of the former suburb Potsdamer Vorstadt. This founding period shaped the structure and layout we see today.
The Protestant churches Melanchthon and Laurentius shape the streetscape and show how the community organized itself around faith. These buildings are woven into daily life and mark places where people gather for prayer and celebrations.
The area has good connections to Berlin through several bus routes, making it easy to reach. The postal codes 13593 to 13595 cover the entire locality and help with navigation.
Between 1950 and 1987, a prison here held several war criminals from World War II behind bars. The building was later torn down to prevent it from becoming a gathering place for extremists.
