Bismarck Tower

The Bismarck Tower is located on Stucken-Berg hill and was built from sandstone blocks to allow views across the surrounding region. The structure provides a broad outlook over the landscape around Herford from above.

The tower was built to honor Otto von Bismarck, the first German Chancellor. It belongs to a group of about 240 similar structures that were created throughout Germany between 1869 and 1934.

The tower is named after the first Chancellor and was built as a memorial to his role in German history. Visitors can today understand the significance of this structure in local commemorative culture.

The tower is open to visitors only on certain Sundays and public holidays from April through October. Plan your visit accordingly and check local opening times beforehand to avoid disappointment.

The structure contains original brazier installations that were used for ceremonial fires lit on important dates in German history. These customs show how the monument was once used as a place for national celebrations.
