Cologne Central Mosque, Islamic center in Ehrenfeld district, Cologne, Germany
Cologne Central Mosque is a place of worship in the Ehrenfeld neighborhood that provides a prayer room for around 1200 people. Two slender towers rise beside a wide glass dome above a multistory complex.
Construction began in 2009 after years of discussion between the DITIB and city authorities. The building was inaugurated in September 2018 and replaced an older community center.
The building was commissioned by the local DITIB congregation and serves as a gathering place for the city's Muslim population. The rooms are used for prayer, religious education, and community meetings.
The building sits near the Piusstraße stop, which is served by several tram lines. Guided visits take place outside prayer times and should be arranged in advance.
The facade consists of large glass panels surrounded by curved concrete shells that bring natural light into the courtyard. The lower floors contain several shops and a café open to visitors.
