Schliffkopf

Schliffkopf, Mountain summit in Northern Black Forest, Germany.

Schliffkopf is a mountain summit in the northern Black Forest reaching about 1055 meters in elevation. The area features dense forests with several marked trails for visitors to explore.

A nature reserve was established here in 1938 to protect around 520 hectares of forest. Hurricane Lothar caused significant damage to the area in 1999, with visible traces remaining today.

The mountain sits within a region where traditional Black Forest communities have long depended on forest resources. Timber work and forestry remain part of daily life in the surrounding villages.

The summit is accessible via the Black Forest High Road with parking areas near the starting points of trails. The paths are well-marked, making navigation straightforward for visitors.

The Lothar Path demonstrates how nature recovers after the devastating 1999 hurricane through wooden walkways and stairs built along the damaged area. Walking this route offers a glimpse of the forest's gradual healing process.
