The Giant Cask is a massive wooden barrel converted into a restaurant located in Bad Dürkheim, stretching across two levels inside. The structure accommodates around 430 diners within its wooden walls.
This barrel was built in 1934 by Fritz Keller using spruce wood from the Black Forest region. It emerged as a remarkable wooden structure during the interwar period.
The Giant Cask stands near the grounds of the annual Wurstmarkt wine festival, which draws more than 600,000 visitors during September celebrations.
The restaurant sits in central Bad Dürkheim and welcomes guests daily for meals. Visitors should note that opening and closing times may vary depending on the season.
This barrel structure holds a volume of 1.7 million liters, surpassing the Heidelberg Tun's capacity of 221,726 liters to claim the world's largest barrel title.
