Gut Eckhof, Manor house in Strande, Germany.
Gut Eckhof is a historic estate in Strande, in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district, made up of a main house, farm buildings, a dairy wing, and a barn. The buildings are arranged around a central courtyard and show agricultural construction styles from different periods.
The estate began as a Meierhof in 1708 and was transformed between 1770 and 1775 by Count Holck into an independent noble property with new buildings. This change reflected the ambitions of its new owner and shifting ideas about land ownership in the region.
An oak tree on the grounds marks the regular visits of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, who had a close connection to the estate. Visitors walking through the property can still see this tree, one of the few visible traces of that literary tie.
The estate today operates partly as vacation accommodations, and the grounds include walking paths, wine gardens, and boat storage areas that visitors can explore. It is worth checking in advance which parts of the property are open to the public before planning your visit.
The estate changed hands several times, with documented sale prices ranging between 28,000 and 60,000 Reichstaler, pointing to considerable shifts in how its value was assessed. This range suggests that the property was seen very differently depending on the moment of sale.
