Venedig

Venedig is a park in Erfurt where multiple branches of the Gera River create an island-like layout with grassy areas and walking trails. Paths run alongside the water channels and link the space to surrounding neighborhoods.

The site once hosted seven mills powered by the water that ran through it, serving local craftspeople and the city. From 1998 onwards, the area between the main streams was converted into a recreational park and remains so today.

The park sits where the city's defensive walls once stood along the waterways, now serving as a space where residents walk and rest among the channels and greenery. The water remains the defining feature that shaped both military structures and daily life here for centuries.

The park is easy to reach on foot and offers free access without time restrictions. Visitors can take photographs freely, and multiple entrance points connect to nearby streets and the bridge district.

The park takes its name from the network of water channels and islands that echo Venice's canal system in miniature form. This reference reflects how the area was envisioned during its redesign, drawing inspiration from one of Europe's most famous water-based cities.
