Schlebuscher Erbstollen

The Schlebuscher Erbstollen extends for 13 kilometers through the hard coal mining district, making it the longest adit in the Ruhr area.

The construction of this drainage tunnel started in the 1780s and continued until the mid-19th century, enabling miners to access coal deposits at depths of 140 meters.

The entrance area received monument protection status in 1986, registered as building monument number 113 in the historical monument list of Wetter.

The adit continues to discharge water into the Ruhr river, located one kilometer away, and during heavy rainfall, the increased flow can submerge nearby fields.

The tunnel served dual purposes by providing both water drainage without pumping requirements and fresh air supply to the mining workplaces for over 250 years.
