Harkort-Tower, Stone observation tower in Alt-Wetter, Germany

The Harkort Tower is a 35-meter stone observation tower on Harkortberg mountain in Alt-Wetter, offering views across the Ruhr Valley from its summit. The structure is built from solid stone and provides a panoramic outlook over the surrounding landscape and settlements from the top.

The tower was built in 1884 and named after Friedrich Harkort, an industrial pioneer who shaped the region's development. This monument dates from a period when the expansion of these areas was advancing and such structures served as places for observation and gathering.

The tower bears the name of Friedrich Harkort, connecting locals across generations to this place where gatherings and celebrations occur regularly. People use it as a meeting point and regional landmark that plays a role in many local traditions.

The tower is reachable via marked hiking trails along the Ruhrhöhenweg, which lead through the surrounding nature. Sports facilities and recreational areas in the nearby vicinity make the visit a varied experience.

At the summit once stood a guesthouse that lodged travelers until the 20th century and made the place an important stopping point. This historical function as a resting place is no longer visible today, yet it shapes the history of this mountain peak.
