Harkort-Tower, Stone observation tower in Alt-Wetter, Germany
The Harkort Tower extends 35 meters into the sky from its position on Harkortberg mountain, providing views across the Ruhr Valley region.
The tower, inaugurated in 1884, bears the name of Friedrich Harkort, an industrial pioneer who shaped the development of the Ruhr region.
The annual Harkortbergfest, initiated in 1886, brings together local residents for celebrations near the observation tower throughout multiple generations.
Visitors reach the tower through marked hiking paths along the Ruhrhöhenweg trail system, with sports facilities and climbing parks in the surrounding area.
The structure stands at the summit of Harkortberg at 231.6 meters elevation, where a former guesthouse served travelers until the 20th century.
