Haus zu den fünf Ringen, Protected architectural monument in Goch, Germany
Haus zu den fünf Ringen is a protected monument at Steinstrasse 1 in Goch, featuring three stories, two octagonal corner towers, and a gabled roof with crenellations. The brick structure shapes the town's appearance with distinctive architectural features characteristic of its period.
Built around 1550 as a patrician house, the structure preserved its outer walls through centuries of change. World War II caused severe interior damage that was later repaired during renovations.
The building served as home to the Otten Brothers Brewery from 1850, where dark beer was produced using traditional recipes from the Lower Rhine region. Visitors can still sense the craft traditions of this local brewing heritage reflected in the building's design and past role.
The building underwent comprehensive renovations between 2022 and 2024 and now houses modern administrative and archive facilities. It is located in the town center at Steinstrasse, making it easy to access and view the well-maintained exterior.
The third floor preserves three medieval cross-stock windows with substantial original materials from the 16th century. These windows display rare building techniques that have rarely survived in the region.
