Lustgarten, Urban park in central Potsdam, Germany.
Lustgarten is an urban park in central Potsdam, located between the city canal, Breite Strasse, and the Alter Markt square. It is made up of a broad lawn section and a reinforced paved area that can support large outdoor events.
The site began as a kitchen garden laid out in the 17th century for the Brandenburg Elector. Over time it was redesigned and gradually lost its formal garden character, eventually becoming a public park open to all.
The Lustgarten sits next to the city canal and the Alter Markt, making it a natural meeting point in the heart of Potsdam. During city festivals and open-air markets, the large lawn fills with stages and stalls while the paved section serves as a front area for performances.
The park is easy to reach on foot from Breite Strasse and is close to several tram stops. It has no fixed entrances or opening hours, so it can be visited at any time of day.
The paved section of the park was built without load restrictions, meaning heavy stage structures and technical vehicles can be placed directly on the surface. This makes it one of the few urban parks in the region designed to handle that kind of demand.
