Omen, discoteca
Omen was a nightclub in Frankfurt located on the ground floor of a former parking garage that opened in 1988. The interior was dark and simply designed, with a large dance floor, colored lights, and a powerful sound system that filled the space with music.
The club was founded in 1988 by Sven Vaeth, Michael Muenzing, and Matthias Martinsohn and helped shape Germany's early techno scene. It closed in 1998 after the landlord ended the lease, and the building was later demolished.
The name refers to the mystical power of music and dancing as a shared experience. Visitors contributed to a strong community that went beyond mere dancing and created a space where people felt free and part of something larger than themselves.
The club was located near Hauptwache Square and Rossmarkt and was easily accessible by public transport. It typically opened in the late evening and stayed open into the early morning hours.
The logo was designed by a student named Brigitte Neubert using an unusual technique in which she cut stencils from thick paper and sprayed paint with a toothbrush and tea strainer. The finished graphic with its rough, weathered appearance became the club's visual signature.
