Garden Tower, Modern office skyscraper in Innenstadt district, Frankfurt, Germany
Garden Tower is a 127 m tall skyscraper in Frankfurt's banking district, made up of two connected structures with 25 and 14 floors respectively. Twelve integrated conservatories are distributed across several levels, giving office spaces direct contact with plants or garden areas.
Construction started in 1973 as the headquarters for Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen and finished in 1976. It was among the first towers to shape what would later become Frankfurt's dense banking district.
The building features an octagonal floor plan that sets it apart from typical office structures of its era. This distinctive shape allows the structure to present different appearances depending on where you view it from.
The tower stands in the banking district and is easy to spot on foot from the surrounding streets. As it is an active office building, access inside is reserved for staff and those with appointments.
During a major renovation between 2003 and 2005, the entire facade was stripped and replaced with modern glass panels while the octagonal frame remained untouched. The building was taken back nearly to its skeleton before being wrapped in its current exterior.
