Neue Mainzer Straße 32-36, known as Global Tower, is a high-rise with 28 floors and a height of 108.6 meters, distinguished by a bronze anodized metal envelope with large window elements. The building follows International Style design principles and dominates the cityscape with its clear, geometric form.
The building was completed in 1974 as headquarters for Commerzbank, following a 1966 design competition where architect Richard Heil's proposal won among seven entries. After serving as a bank headquarters for roughly two decades, the property changed use in 1997 and underwent comprehensive modernization from 2017 to 2022.
The structure earned the name Global Tower and was built in the 1970s as a headquarters for a major banking institution. It continues to shape the visual character of the banking district with its distinctive bronze facade and serves as a landmark of the modernist design language from that era.
The building is located in the banking district and at 108.6 meters tall is visible from many positions across the city. The exterior and surroundings are easily accessible, though as a business building it is primarily viewed by visitors from the outside.
Part of the complex is the Global Forum added in 1994, a multifunctional auditorium designed by architect Norman Foster that holds about 500 people. This modern event space makes use of the high-rise's resources and offers a contrast of cool elegance in its interior.
