Heidburg

Heidburg is castle ruins in the Black Forest with stone walls rising from forested slopes, featuring architectural elements from multiple construction periods. The structure displays varying design features that reflect its long history of use and modification.

The castle began as a medieval defensive structure built to secure trade routes through the Black Forest and was eventually abandoned. Its decline followed changes in how those trading routes were used and maintained.

The stone walls show traces of medieval craftsmanship and reveal how builders of that time worked. Walking through the ruins, you can observe how different construction phases were added one after another.

You can reach the castle ruins by following marked hiking trails from a nearby parking area, with guided tours offered during warmer months. Some paths are steep, so wear sturdy shoes and allow time for the uphill walk.

The eastern tower contained a well system that supplied water to the castle, demonstrating medieval engineering skill. Parts of these underground structures remain visible today and show the practical solutions of that era.
