Karlstein, Mountain summit in Hornberg, Germany
The Karlstein summit rises to 968.9 meters and features granite rock formations in the Niederwasser district of Hornberg, alongside the Westweg hiking trail.
Until 1805, the Karlstein marked a four-country corner where Baden, Württemberg, Fürstenberg, and Vorderösterreich territories met at their boundaries.
The mountain, formerly named Hauenstein, received its current name after Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg climbed to its peak on July 23, 1770.
The Tourist Information office in Hornberg at Bahnhofstrasse 1-3 provides details about the Nordic walking trail that extends 7.63 kilometers with 201 meters elevation gain.
The summit offers views in three cardinal directions - east, north, and south - and stands as a significant point along the long-distance Westweg trail from Pforzheim to Basel.
