Ruine Kargegg

Ruine Kargegg is a castle ruin perched on a sandstone elevation in Allensbach, dominated by the remains of a residential tower. The structure once featured thick defensive walls and occupied a strategic position overlooking the surrounding terrain.

The castle was founded around 1200 by the Lords of Möggingen and passed through several owners in the following centuries. It was destroyed during the peasant uprisings in the 1520s and subsequently fell into decay.

The castle structure represents the front tower design common in medieval German architecture, with an elongated polygonal layout and deep defensive moat.

The ruins can be accessed via hiking trails that begin from various trailheads in the surrounding area. The path requires sturdy footwear and moderate physical effort, especially when ascending from lower elevations.

The site sits high above Marienschlucht gorge and commands sweeping views across the surrounding landscape. The scattered stone foundations beneath the tower remains hold clues to medieval construction techniques visible to observant visitors.
