Siegberg

Siegberg is a mountain peak in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis region rising to about 220 meters, offering views across the southeastern part of the Cologne Lowland. The slopes feature terraced sections and varied vegetation.

The mountain gained importance in 1064 when Archbishop Anno II chose the peak as the location for Michaelsberg Abbey. This decision made the site a religious center of the region.

The mountain is closely tied to local farming, where growers use traditional methods to produce regional vegetables and herbs. This way of working the land shapes the hillsides and shows how people have shaped the landscape.

Multiple hiking trails lead to the summit from the base, with parking areas at various starting points. Wear sturdy footwear and allow time for the walk, as routes vary in difficulty.

The mountain contains geological formations from the Devonian period with fossils of marine creatures from ancient tropical seas. These findings show that the region was covered by water millions of years ago.
