Thürmer-Saal, Concert hall in Wiemelhausen district, Bochum, Germany
The Thürmer-Saal is a concert hall with approximately 450 seats designed as an intimate chamber music space featuring modernist architectural principles. The interior incorporates sophisticated lighting design and clean lines that define the listening environment.
The complex opened in 1988 following the relocation of a piano manufacturing facility from Herne to Bochum, transforming the city's musical landscape. From its inception, the building was envisioned as a dedicated space for serious piano performances.
The venue served as a major gathering place for piano music lovers across the Ruhr region, drawing audiences who valued intimate classical performances. It became known locally as a destination where serious musicians and curious listeners met to experience concerts.
The venue includes rehearsal rooms and artist apartments alongside the main performance space, creating a self-contained facility for musicians. Visitors benefit from having amenities concentrated in one location, making it easy to experience performances and explore the building.
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia acquired the building in 2009, transforming it into a training center for the performing arts. Today it operates as an educational hub for the Folkwang University of Arts, giving it a second life beyond its concert hall days.
