Virtuelles Altstadtmodell Frankfurt am Main, Scientific 3D model in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Virtual Old Town Model of Frankfurt is a detailed digital 3D reconstruction of the city's historical center as it existed before 1943. It displays streets, buildings, and architectural elements from that era in comprehensive detail.
The project was created between 2003 and 2011 based on a physical model made by the Treuner brothers from 1926 to 1955. Historical photographs, drawings, and extensive archival research formed the foundation for the digital reconstruction.
The model preserves memories of Frankfurt's medieval architecture and urban layout in digital form. This reconstruction brings historical knowledge to life for visitors today in an accessible way.
The model is accessible through an online platform using special Sightwalk technology with over 1,400 panoramic views of the old city. You can explore the historical layout and buildings from anywhere using the interactive content and informational videos.
Geographer Joerg Ott spent five months researching historical sources to accurately reconstruct buildings that were never photographed. His work with archives and historical documents made it possible to authentically bring vanished structures back to life in digital form.
