Waldkaserne, Military barracks in Hilden, Germany.
Waldkaserne is a military facility at the edge of Hilden covering roughly 29 hectares of land. The complex sits within a protected landscape area surrounded by municipal forest near Elberfelder Street.
The complex was built in 1937 by the Wehrmacht and later served as St Davids Barracks under American and British forces. The Bundeswehr took over in 1968 and has operated it as a military facility since then.
The site hosts the Bundeswehr Training Music Corps, which regularly performs concerts and organizes cultural events for the surrounding community. This musical presence has shaped the facility's role as more than just a military installation.
The facility employs roughly 750 military personnel and 70 civilian staff in various administrative roles. Medical facilities and specialized units are located throughout the grounds.
The Music Corps campus underwent major modernization between 2015 and 2018 with significant investments in new buildings and facilities. This renovation transformed the area into a contemporary training center for military musicians.
