Bibliothek des Konservatismus, Research library in Charlottenburg, Germany.
The Bibliothek des Konservatismus, also known as the Library of Conservatism, is a research library in Berlin's Charlottenburg district focused on conservative and right-wing thought from the 18th century to the present. Its holdings cover political science, history, sociology, the arts, and economics.
The library grew out of the private book collection of Caspar von Schrenck-Notzing and opened as a public research facility in Berlin in November 2012. The later addition of philosopher Gunther Rohrmoser's personal library brought a large number of new volumes into the collection.
The library takes its name as a statement: it positions itself as a space for engaging with conservative thought in a direct and open way. Visitors can browse works that are rarely found in mainstream bookshops or general public libraries.
Because this is a research library, it is a good idea to register before your visit. The building sits directly across from the Berlin University of the Arts and is easy to reach by public transport.
The collection holds rare historical editions of works by thinkers such as Edmund Burke and Roger Scruton that are difficult to find anywhere else. Some of these volumes date back to the 19th century and give a direct sense of how these ideas first circulated in print.
