Totenkopf, Mountain pass at 513.7 meters in Haardt range, Palatinate Forest, Germany
The Totenkopf mountain pass connects Breitenstein and St. Martin through a 13.6-kilometer road that reaches its highest point in the middle section.
Archaeological findings revealed a skull in an ancient burial mound near a Roman road that connected Speyer with Metz during the Roman period.
The Palatinate Forest Association maintains the Totenkopf Hut, a shelter with 180 seats consisting of a two-story main building and additional annexes.
Two parking areas near the Totenkopf Hut provide access points for visitors starting their hikes through the network of trails in the region.
The hiking route from Felsenmeer to Totenkopf includes three peaks and offers views over the Rhine plain towards the Odenwald mountain range.
