Steigerkopf, Mountain summit in Palatinate Forest, Germany
Steigerkopf reaches an elevation of 613.6 meters and features dense forests with diverse wildlife across its sandstone terrain in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The mountain gained military importance in 1794 when Prussian soldiers constructed earthworks to defend against advancing French Revolutionary forces.
The 13-meter Schänzel Tower, built in 1874 from local sandstone, stands at the summit as a memorial to fallen Prussian soldiers.
Multiple marked hiking trails connect Steigerkopf to neighboring peaks, with designated parking areas available near the mountain base.
The summit forms part of the UNESCO Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve, established in 1998 for environmental conservation.
