Pützerturm, Office tower at Hochschulstraße, Darmstadt, Germany
The Pützerturm is a six-story office building in Darmstadt with a distinctive mansard roof and a clock loggia at its top, featuring detailed exterior craftsmanship. Today the building serves as a modern office space and shapes the streetscape with its height and form.
The tower was built in 1905 by architect Friedrich Pützer and originally served as a wireless telegraphy station with a copper dome. Damaged during World War II, the building was later reconstructed and remains part of the university landscape today.
The building represents the growth of electrical engineering education at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where it functioned as a lecture hall. Visitors can see in it an important symbol of the city's scientific history.
The building is visible from public spaces and located centrally on the Technical University campus, making it easy to reach. After extensive renovation work, the structure is in good condition and preserves its original features.
After the war, the tower's height was reduced by about nine meters, and flanking structures were elevated to create a new architectural balance. These changes remain visible today and show the adaptations the building has undergone.
