Synagoge, Historical synagogue in Eschwege, Germany
The synagogue stands prominently in Eschwege, featuring architectural elements that represent traditional religious construction methods of the 19th century.
Built between 1837 and 1838, the synagogue experienced severe damage during the events of November 1938 and was later converted into a New Apostolic church.
The building served as a central gathering point for Eschwege's Jewish population, which reached 549 members at its peak in 1885.
The structure maintains its religious function today while offering visitors opportunities to learn about the Jewish heritage through guided tours and educational programs.
David Ben-Gurion's 1946 visit to Eschwege's displaced persons camp, located near the synagogue, is commemorated by a bronze memorial plaque installed in 2012.
