Hoferkopfturm, Observation tower in Friedrichsthal, Germany
The Hoferkopfturm is an observation tower in Friedrichsthal standing 21 meters tall. The structure offers views across the town, the Sulzbach Valley, and toward Saarbrücken on clear days.
The first wooden structure was built in 1931 by the Saarwald Association and became a local symbol. After its demolition in 1972 due to mining damage, a new tower was constructed in 1994 through volunteer efforts by THW Friedrichsthal.
The tower holds significance for local identity, as demonstrated by the formation of a support association dedicated to reconstructing the structure based on its 1931 design.
Getting there is best done on foot or by car to reach the hilltop location. Access to the base is typically open, and from there visitors can climb the stairs to take in the surrounding landscapes.
A school class from Quierschied created a 1:12 scale model standing about two meters tall over many months of work. This handcrafted piece subtly preserves knowledge about the structure.
