Ørestad

Ørestad is a modern residential district on Amager island featuring contemporary architecture, office spaces, and integrated green areas across multiple sectors. The area blends housing, commerce, and public spaces into a planned urban development.

The district was approved by the Danish Parliament in 1992, followed by an international architectural competition in 1994 that shaped its master plan. These early decisions established the framework for what became a planned modern neighborhood.

The district is home to the DR Concert Hall, a modern cultural venue that hosts musical performances and events throughout the year. This building shapes how locals and visitors experience contemporary culture in the area.

The district connects to central Copenhagen and the airport via the M1 metro line, making it easy to reach from elsewhere in the city. Walking and public transit are the main ways to get around within the area itself.

The VM Mountain residential building uses a diagonal terraced design that combines parking with private gardens for residents to enjoy. This clever solution shows how creative architecture can serve both practical and personal needs.
