Scandinavian Center, Convention center in Midtbyen, Aarhus, Denmark.
The Scandinavian Center is a convention building in central Aarhus that stretches along a glass-covered promenade connecting different levels. It bridges a height difference of about 11 meters between Aarhus Concert Hall and the Sonnesgade area at Godsbanen.
The center opened in 1995 as part of a city effort to revitalize the area around the concert hall and the Aarhus River valley in the Mølleengen neighborhood. This development helped strengthen the connection between the cultural hub and the surrounding district.
The center reflects Nordic design through its staircases, walkways, and bright spaces created by the arched glass roof with pipe supports. This design approach shapes how visitors experience moving through different levels of the building.
The building houses conference rooms, hotel facilities, and business areas for various events and professional gatherings. The connected walkways and levels make it fairly easy to navigate, though the different elevations can feel confusing at first.
The construction uses carefully selected materials including yellow brick, black marble, granite, aluminum, and jatoba wood flooring throughout different sections. These material combinations create distinct zones that shape the rhythm of moving through the building.
